The Housewarming Gift that won't end up in a Drawer: A Studio Guide
May 8, 2026 · 7 min read
A new home is one of the biggest events in an Indian family's life. The Griha Pravesh puja, the new furniture smell, the careful arrangement of every corner — it's all charged with hope. And into this moment, someone hands you a gift-wrapped box of dry fruits, or a decorative plate that'll be in the kitchen cabinet by next week.
We think new homes deserve better.
At our studio in Hyderabad, about 30% of our custom orders are for housewarming gifts. People come to us because they want something that belongs in the new space — something that was made for this moment, not plucked off a shelf.
Why Most Housewarming Gifts Fail
The standard housewarming gift fails for one of two reasons:
It's too generic. A silver-plated tray, a decorative bowl, a pot of money plant — these gifts say "I wanted to bring something." They don't say anything about the new home, the people who'll live there, or your relationship with them.
It tries too hard to be auspicious. India has a long tradition of gifting brass Ganeshas and silver Lakshmis for new homes, and they're beautiful when thoughtfully chosen. But when every guest brings one, the symbolism gets lost in a collection of nearly identical figurines on the mantelpiece.
The best housewarming gift is one that fits the home and the people. Something they'd have bought themselves, but slightly elevated — because you chose it for them.
Five Housewarming Gifts from Our Studio
1. Custom Resin Coasters — Art for the Coffee Table
- Functional (every home needs coasters)
- Beautiful (our resin work has depth that regular coasters don't)
- Personal (we can match the colour palette to their living room — warm terracottas, cool midnight blues, forest greens)
We've done sets in deep maroon and gold for a home with warm wood furniture. We've done minimal white and silver for a modern apartment in Bangalore. We once did a set in the exact shade of blue that matched the couple's accent wall, because they sent us a photo.
That's what makes a gift land.
Price: ₹699 for a set of 4
2. The NFC Memory Frame — for the Living Room Wall
New homes have bare walls. This is an opportunity.
Our NFC photo frames are pieces of resin art that also hold a secret: tap your phone on them, and they open a photo album, a video message, or whatever link you've chosen. For a housewarming gift, you could:
- Load it with photos of the family in the old home — a 'before' memory
- Link it to a video message from all the guests at the Griha Pravesh
- Set it to a shared album that the family can keep adding to as the new home fills with memories
The frame itself is a hand-poured piece of art. The NFC chip is invisible inside. It works with any smartphone, no app needed. It'll hang on their wall for years.
Price: From ₹799
3. A 3D Printed Name or Door Sign
For new homeowners, there's something deeply satisfying about putting your name on a place. We make custom door signs and name plates in a variety of finishes — silk metallic PLA that looks almost like brushed metal, marble effect, and classic matte black.
We can print the family's surname, the name they've given the house ("Anand Niwas," "The Khanna Home"), or a combination of both parents' initials arranged as a monogram.
It's a gift that goes on the outside of the front door — one of the most visible spots in any home.
Price: From ₹349
4. Warli or Kolam Art Wall Panels
We make 3D printed wall panels based on traditional Indian art forms — Warli tribal patterns and South Indian Kolam designs. These are filled with resin and finished with a back-mount so they hang cleanly on any wall.
They're a way to bring Indian art heritage into a modern home without it looking like a souvenir. The patterns are intricate, the resin fill gives them depth and colour, and because they're 3D printed, every line is crisp.
For a new home, they work as standalone art pieces or as a set of three across a feature wall.
Price: From ₹499 per panel
5. A 'Coordinates' Plaque — the Address of the First Home
This is one of our more personal custom orders. We take the GPS coordinates of the new home and 3D print them as a decorative plaque — often combined with a small resin pour.
It sounds niche, but it lands every single time. Years later, when they've potentially moved to a larger place, that first home's coordinates on the wall is a piece of memory. The first address. The place where it all started.

What to Consider When Choosing
The home's style: A modern, minimal apartment in Mumbai calls for different gifts than a traditional home in Hyderabad. Ask the recipient what colours they're decorating with. Or look at their Instagram. People who are moving often post about their new space.
The family size: A set of 4 coasters is perfect for a couple. A family of 5 might want a set of 6, or a larger wall piece that isn't size-limited.
Your budget: Our housewarming gifts start at ₹349 and go up to ₹1,299+. All of them are handmade. None of them look like a ₹349 gift.
Lead time: We need 5–7 working days for most custom orders. If you're going to the Griha Pravesh next weekend, WhatsApp us immediately — we'll tell you honestly what we can do.
A Note on Auspiciousness
We get asked sometimes: "Is resin art or 3D printing considered auspicious for a Griha Pravesh?"
Our take: auspiciousness in a new home comes from intention. A hand-poured resin piece that took two days to cure and was made specifically for this family and this home carries more intention than a mass-produced brass figurine. What you put into the making is what the gift holds.
If you want to combine tradition and craft, we can embed a small Om symbol, a Swastik, or a Ganesha motif into a resin piece. Some of our most requested Griha Pravesh gifts are exactly this — traditional symbols, made in a modern, lasting medium.
